Eye ware for the Port Chaplain
In some terminals, eye protection is mandatory and should comply with the ANSI Z87.1 safety standard.
For those who already wear prescription glasses, removable side shields can often be added for additional protection. If your glasses are curved or wraparound style, they may already provide acceptable side protection depending on terminal requirements.
For those who do not wear prescription glasses, standard safety glasses should be worn while in terminal and industrial areas.
When entering refineries or higher-risk environments, safety goggles should also be available and easily accessible, such as attached to your hard hat or stored in a nearby pocket or bag in case conditions require them.
Tinted or shaded safety glasses may be worn outdoors in bright sunlight, but they should generally be removed once inside the vessel or interior spaces.
The most important thing to remember is to protect your eyes from chemicals, dust, rust particles, paint chips, or other debris that could cause serious eye injury.
