Hard Hats for the Port Chaplain
There are generally three types of hard hats to choose from when visiting ships and terminals.
1. Rimless Hard Hat
This style resembles a climbing or bicycle-style helmet and has no brim around the edge. It is lightweight, modern, and comfortable to wear for extended periods. However, it provides little protection from sun or rain exposure.
2. Front Rim Hard Hat
This is the most common style of hard hat used in industrial environments. The front brim helps provide limited shade and protection from rain while maintaining a lighter overall weight.
3. Full Rim Hard Hat
A full rim hard hat provides the greatest protection from sun, rain, and falling debris by extending the brim around the entire helmet. The trade-off is that it is generally heavier and bulkier than the other styles.
Regardless of the style chosen, the hard hat should comply with the ANSI Z89.1 safety standard.
